It’s Time to Choose Another Way Forward: Flourishing Leadership

President Donald Trump and the Republican Party are leading America towards becoming a more authoritarian society in ways that are dramatically undermining the United States as a constitutional democratic republic. The Democratic Party in America has profoundly marginalized itself by patronizing and deeply alienating vast numbers of Americans. There is a failure of leadership generally in America and the world.
In the essay entitled A Way Forward for America and the World: Flourishing Leadership located at tab WHY there is an evaluation of the reasons for these disturbing developments, and how Flourishing Leadership provides A Way Forward for all of us.

“Flourishing Leadership” provides an alternative approach – A Way Forward – through leadership that honors and embraces everyone and overcomes polarization. Most people are not aware of Flourishing Leadership nor its underlying principles. However, the foundations of Flourishing Leadership have been developing for many years and can be found emerging in hundreds of different places and ways.

The time has come to embrace Flourishing Leadership in our lives, our families, our neighborhoods, our organizations, our communities, and particularly including politics and public institutions. Flourishing Leadership is the only viable choice that America and the world have left to slow further dramatic societal deterioration and to move towards a flourishing future for all.

In addition to sharing evidence-based principles of Flourishing Leadership we emphasize both the importance of deep inner work to support our Flourishing Leadership in the world as well as the importance of developing significant additional Capacities as a critical aspect of effective Flourishing Leadership in complex environments and broader societal stewardships.

THE PURPOSE AND NATURE OF THIS A WAY FORWARD LEADERSHIP TRAINING WEBSITE

To help integrate Flourishing Leadership into our lives and societies as rapidly as possible including in the following ways:

  • To introduce principles of flourishing and to clarify that you don’t flourish alone, that is, if you are practicing evidence-based flourishing principles, you are practicing Flourishing Leadership.
  • To provide Flourishing Leadership training
  • To promote broad societal awareness and support of Flourishing Leadership and a “Flourishing Leadership Movement”
  • To share applications and examples of Flourishing Leadership
  • To provide weekly INSIGHTS regarding A Way Forward that address the vital importance of Flourishing Leadership as A Way Forward together with supportive meditative and virtue practices
  • To host and promote a Flourishing Leadership Resource Network, a Network of diverse groups and organizations that in their own ways do research, education, training, or modeling of evidence-based approaches to Flourishing Leadership and complementary topics together with references to other resources related to flourishing and Flourishing Leadership
  • To host and promote a Flourishing Leadership Community Network, comprised of interconnected and synergistic communities of learning and practice that pursue learning about, supporting, and integrating Flourishing Leadership into their respective areas of interest, such as their families, organizations, communities, and societies including in the political process and public institutions.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF FLOURISHING LEADERSHIP?

Basic Principles of Flourishing Leadership:

  • You deeply manifest the evidence-based first principle of human flourishing and Flourishing Leadership in your life, relationships, and leadership responsibilities: Love and related qualities such as Care, Empathy, and Compassion.
  • You do spiritual inner flourishing work that supports strong and virtuous character.
  • In turn, strong and virtuous character underlies and supports living into principles of Flourishing Leadership.
  • In turn, you understand and know how to apply evidence-based principles of flourishing and Flourishing Leadership in the contexts that are applicable to you.
  • In a societal context you are deeply committed to the universal principles of liberty, justice, and flourishing for all, and to a stewardship for all life and the ecosystems within which we all live.

Elements of Flourishing Leadership That Depend on Developmental Capacity as Shared on this Website

Particularly for complex environments and broader societal leadership significant developmental capacity (“Capacity”) is required to fully manifest several of the gifts of Flourishing Leadership. Such Capacity has been attained to date by a small percentage of adults but could be attained by many if not most adults over time with proper support, training, and practices.

Such Capacity appears to be absent with rare exceptions from political leaders on both the right and the left. And yet there are already many thousands of leaders in other sectors such as the business and academic communities with adequate Capacity that know some version of Flourishing Leadership or could quickly learn Flourishing Leadership principles and skills and apply them in politics and public institutions. There are millions of people who in a period of a few years with adequate support and training could grow into that Capacity and develop Flourishing Leadership skills.

Some principles of Flourishing Leadership that require additional Capacity to fully master are:

  • You have the capacity to weave together solutions to the challenges before us that adequately address virtually everyone’s deepest concerns. In this context ideological divisions begin to fade.
  • You have the capacity to design, develop, and lead processes and institutions that support flourishing outcomes for all – locally, regionally, nationally, and globally.
  • You can recognize the approximate stage of development and cultural context of virtually everyone you interact with. Through this capacity you are able to empathize and connect with virtually everyone, and you are able to customize your communication accordingly for optimal effect. As such, virtually everyone hears what you are intending to say and feels seen and heard by you.
  • You have a world centric moral maturity including caring deeply about all people locally to globally, and you have deep concern and a sense of stewardship for all life.
  • You have the capacity and skills to work competently with the extreme complexity that is so pervasive in 21st-century civilization.
  • Your leadership reflects the following ecosystemic awareness:
    • You recognize the holistic nature of flourishing including body, emotions, mind, and spirit and that the ecosystemic qualities within each of us and among all of us and all life.
    • You recognize the intimate interrelationship among individual, collective and ecosystemic flourishing.
    • You have a deep sense of the importance of local to global ecosystems within which we all live and are a part of and that we all require for our very survival let alone flourishing.
